{New Podcast Episode: 15 min} Domestic Violence, Attachment and Masculinity

Friends,
In this quick episode, I want to share a few of the things that I am learning in my rehabilitation work for the Prison and Probation Service.
One of those things is what seems to be a hidden truth about domestic violence.
In my ongoing involvement in running rehabilitation groups for men convicted of that particular type of offence, I have observed that, often, domestic violence isn’t committed due to a lack of connection between a man and a woman, but as a result of the man’s need for the woman.
And if there’s a separation or a breakup, the man becomes a desperate, wounded little boy who would do anything to stay with his girlfriend or wife—in a deeper reality, his mother, the source of his life within—and this is often how violence is committed.
A sad reality indeed, but things don’t have to stay the same. What if there is a way to address the root of the problem in all men, or at least most of us, not just in 'offenders'? Can we be honest with ourselves for a moment and take a look at the ways we are 'attached' to the women in our lives?
Our attachment can be healed; our relationship can be made whole. This is not only how relational suffering and eventual crime are averted; it is also the way of life—of true freedom in ourselves, our relationships and yes, our masculinity.
